KYAMBURA GORGE LODGE

Kyambura Gorge Lodge- Kyambura Gorge  Uganda.

Volcanoes  Safaris, a Great Apes tour operator and lodge company is currently building Kyambura Gorge Lodge, located adjacent to the Queen Elizabeth National Park and overlooking the unique Kyambura Gorge which is the home of a troop of threatened Chimpanzees. HM Design was one of the Architects, the Landscape Architect and Site Planner and prepared the overall Site Plan of this beautiful site which is creating a buffer zone between Queen Elizabeth National Park and local community farms. HM Design’s input was not a full service effort but on a fixed day consultancy. An Architect from India incorporated Vastu Shastra (ancient Indian concepts of harmonizing the energy of buildings with the earth) both in the siting of the villas and in the architecture of the individual buildings.

The signature lodge building is the re-converted and re-furbished ‘ex-coffee processing and drying shed’ which now houses the reception, lounge, dining/kitchen, bar and offices for the new lodge. The overall lodge design has strong Environmental ethos: re-use of existing coffee factory buildings, solar power, dry-composting toilets, low- water consumption technology, safari showers and environmentally friendly materials like thatch, clay and volcanic rock.
