Eagle View Camp

Architecture

Naboisho Wildlife Conservancy, Kenya

The 6-Hectare Eagle View Camp is situated within the Mara Naboisho Wildlife Conservancy (20,000 Hectares), located just north of the world-renowned Maasai Mara Game Reserve, Kenya. The camp is 100 % owned by the indigenous Koiyaki Maasai peoples who have a 30-yr lease agreement with a private lodge operator – Basecamp Explorer.

HM Design was the lead consultant, landscape architect, co-Architect and led a local team that provided Conceptual to Design Development services for the expansion and eco-reconversion of existing facilities that had been poorly-built and were in disrepair. HM Design proposed an extreme makeover – from an equivalent 2-star, 5-villa property to one that is 4-star equivalent and with 12 safari tents. The Architecture borrows from vernacular Maasai homesteads and marries it with modern safari tent roofs. The expansion and eco-conversion of the existing Lodge complements the natural woodland savanna environment while having minimal impact on the ecology of the site. The new master plan includes upgraded accommodations, renovated existing villas, entrance arrival experience, re-furbished and expanded main building, interpretation center, swimming pool etc.
