Kyambura Gorge Lodge

Ecolodge Design

QE National Park, Uganda

Kyambura Gorge Lodge is located on the eastern boundary of Queen Elizabeth National Park and is situated at the edge of the Rift Valley escarpment with sweeping views of the National Park savannah and mountains beyond.

The lodge was conceived by Praveen Moman (the client), designed with a team of international design experts and built by local Ugandan builders. HM Design was the Landscape Architect and a member of the Architect’s team that designed this first Authentic Ecolodge in Uganda. The master plan includes a re-furbished and expanded ‘coffee processing and drying shed’ building, luxury villas, entrance arrival experience, interpretation center, spa, swimming pool etc. The existing lay of the land as well as locations of existing buildings was respected and considered in the Site Plan. An Architect from India incorporated Vaastu Shastra (ancient Indian concepts of harmonizing the energy of buildings with the earth) both in the siting of the villas and in the architecture of the individual buildings. The New Villas were designed by Regional Associates. HM Design’s input was on a fixed day consultancy. The lodge opened to the public in June 2011.
