RiverEcohouse

Architecture

Nairobi, Kenya

RiverEcohouse is located in the Spring Valley ‘suburb’.

HM Design is currently the Design Team Leader, Architect and Landscape Architect for the 9,000 square feet (850 m2) house and providing full services – from concept to implementation. The local Consultant team is led by Sketch Studio. The post-modern building concept is simple – juxtaposition of five rectangles. However in its simplicity, is its complexity. The interior volumes interweave to create both private, semi-private and public spaces and these spaces are connected to a pool, garden and external recreational and resting spaces. The whole project is being designed using vastu shastra and ecodesign (cross-ventilation, alternative energy, rainwater-harvesting, grey water irrigation, environmentally friendly materials, native plants) principles. The to and fro and inclusive process and methodology was used to create this eco-friendly luxury house in Nairobi. The interior designer was brought into the project at an early stage and the collaborative process helped enhance the overall experience. The house and garden contains 4 bed-rooms, a penthouse floor, gym sauna and massage center, pool, yoga pavilion, entertainment center and staff housing.
