Hitesh Mehta was part of the team that planned a sustainable development master plan for the 220,000-hectare Wolong National Nature Reserve which has the largest concentration of Giant Pandas in the world and houses the ‘re-introduction into the wild’ buffer areas. The Reserve is one of the most highly biodiverse areas in China in spite of the fact that it experiences only three seasons (Spring, Autumn and Winter). Species include 4000 plants, 100 Mammals, 300 Reptiles, 21 Amphibians, 18 Fish and 1700 Insects. This reserve is also home to the Qiang peoples. Hitesh and his team carried out detailed off site and on-site research and analysis and also ensured that the local peoples were involved from day one of the planning process.
