Toritja National Park, Central Australia

The existing Glen Helen Lodge, situated on the Finke River, is the only roofed accommodation located within the Tjoritja – West MacDonnell Ranges National Park, 130km west of Alice Springs. This extraordinary landscape is 800 million years old and has been home to the Western Aranda Aboriginal people for tens of thousands of years.

HM Design was the landscape architect for the creation of a revised Overall Master Plan for an existing Resort and Camping area (Glenn Helen Resort) in one of the most scenic aboriginal landscapes in Central Australia – Yapalpa Gorge (previously Glenn Helen). HM Design worked closely with the owners – Western Aranda aboriginal peoples – in developing the master plan which includes new arrival experience, visitor center, eco-villas, eco-cabins, restored Museum, native species Aboriginal garden, restaurant, swimming pool, artists residence and workshop, powered camping, cooking stations, restrooms, play areas, staff housing etc.
